If I could have superhuman powers what would they be?
Being a former junkie of the television show “Heroes“, I have asked myself this question very frequently. The concept of the show was humans with genetic mutations that gave them superhuman abilities. Some of them could fly, others read minds, more still had the ability to move objects with their minds. You had those who could shape-shift, and those who could see the future and travel through the time and space continuum.
I always considered mind reading as a feasible option. But do I really want to know everyone’s true thoughts? It is more than a little invasive. Telekinesis, the ability to move objects with your mind, always reminded me of Stephen King’s “Carrie” and how well that worked out for her. Besides, I know I would get lazy if I didn’t have to get up to get or do things. Hence, a cause for unneeded weight gain. Traveling back and forth through time, also seems too delicate of a matter to trifle with.
There is still so many super abilities to choose from but there are two that stand out to me as the best ability with minimal consequences. I wish I had the ability to teleport and speak in foreign tongues. This way I can travel, for free, to anywhere I wished to go and be able to communicate with the locals. I could visit all the sites I have wanted to see without so much as spending a penny to do so. That is the kind of ability, that I wish I could have. But since it is only a wishful hope and not a possibility, I have taken to learning other languages on my own. At least I can try to attain some realistic part of my dream.

Oh my goodness, I did not even think of being able to speak in any and all languages! What a fantastic and useful super power.
And geez, you’re right about Carrie, that is not a good way to go.

I like Marybeth didn’t even consider being able to speak in all languages a super power. You thought all the way outside of the box. Teleporting is also another great power, you could travel anywhere you want without having to pay for a plane ticket or gas and you wouldn’t have to use a passport. Saving money on transportation would allow you to spend more money shopping!!!!

Yeah, the whole Carrie thing would be a bad way to go out, but I mean, that one guy on X-Men had the whole telekinesis thing going on.. chunked cars around like nobody’s business. The ability to assimilate with any culture through being fluent in any language would be an amazing gift, since I love travel more than anything else.. great idea there Crystal.
